The Molecular Animal Genetics Centre

view of the Molecular Animal Genetics Centre The CSIRO Molecular Animal Genetics Centre (MAGEC) is located on level 3 of the Gehrmann Laboraties (Building 60) on the St. Lucia campus of the University of Queensland. There is a map of the University which shows the campus at variable zoom levels. This view is of part of level three shot from the walkway between the Gehrmann and the Ritchie Laboratories. The Gehrmann Laboratories were constructed in 1991 and MAGEC was opened officially on 21 July 1992. Reasearch at the centre is primarily in the genomic disciplines of Molecular Genetics, Functional Genomics and Proteomics but includes work on Pests and Diseases from a variety of approaches.

The Gehrmann Laboratories are home also to the Centre for Magnetic Resonance, The Queensland Agricultural Biotechnology Centre, the Brisbane node of The Australian Genome Research Facility, The Centre for Identification and Diagnostics of Insects and Weeds, Advanced Ceramics Development, The CSIRO BioMolecular Initiative, and The Centre for Drug Design and Delivery.
view of the construction site for the Joint Venture Building This is a view of the construction site for the Joint Venture Building (JVB) between CSIRO and the Institute of Molecular Biosciences of the University of Queensland taken at 11 am on 7 June 2000. Staff at MAGEC will transfer to the CSIRO wing of the JVB. This view shows the complete removal of the CSIRO Cunningham Laboratories. The pink building on the right is the CSIRO Controlled Environment Facility which will become part of the JVB. Photographs of the site during the demolition phase can be seen here.
